Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and now Lacertus Syndrome

    Having broken my arm in mid January 2026, I soon developed what was eventually confirmed to be 'extremely severe' Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - numb fingers, constant severe pins and needles, night pain etc. Carpal tunnel surgery in early June provided some initial relief. However, with no further improvement I returned to the consultant and she now advises that I have more surgery, not for failed carpal tunnel surgery, but for Lacertus syndrome. This involves similar treatment to release the trapped nerve, not at the wrist but at my elbow.

    Has anyone else experience of this syndrome - perhaps as a ringer affected similarly or through professional experience? Apparently it can be be caused by repeated gripping while elbows are bent - which sounds like the action we use while tower bell ringing!

    I’m not sure of the exact diagnosis but I know a ringer who also has more than just carpal tunnel syndrome and has been unable to ring for a few months now while following up treatment options. She had tried a little ringing after carpal tunnel treatment and then had problems with cubital tunnel, which is also related to the elbow being bent while the hands are gripping so sounds similar to Lacertus.
