  • What would you like from us?
That's a good idea Phillip, thank you.
  • CCCBR Filming Project
    Thanks Peter.

I don't think some of those questions are quite appropriate for what we're trying to do, but good questions to ask existing ringers!

    Thanks John, that's helpful.
  • Dwindling tradition, weird hobby or join a friendly band?
I have a list of about 120 national, international and local media contacts and depending on the story will send a press release to a sub set, or all of them. With the Ring for the King PR all my contacts were sent exactly the same story. How they interpret it, and how the local ringers they are put in contact with explain it varies greatly. The YCRA piece was off the back of my press release as were several others. I then offer those people guidance on what message we need to try to get across.

Having said that I was interviewed live on our local BBC Radio station, during their Volunteers Voices segment, and the interviewer just wanted to keep coming back to how many times do people get pulled up by the ropes. I think he mentioned it at least three times. Each time I had to explain this was a very rare occurance and only generally happens when inexperienced people don't do as instructed. Andit's not like the Mars advert.

There is some guidance on the CC website about how to engage with the press, then how to handle them once you've got engagement https://cccbr.org.uk/bellringing/ring-for-the-king/

The Press like a good "story". Doom and gloom seems to be their modus operandi at the moment, with the occassional good news story.

I'm happy to give support to anyone dealing with the Press in what to say and how to come across.
  • Who has a Social Media Officer?
My Association role is as Communications Officer so incorporates both external PR and internal comms. PR also applies to our internatal audience as we often have to engage with our own ringers to get them to support things. I cover our social media, although we have a separate webmaster and newsletter editor.

  • Operation London Bridge

As part of what I have written to Lambeth Palace I have indicated we would want to done something for the Coronation and use this as a recruitment opportunity to Ring for the King! It's being looked at as part of the PR Workgroup activities and I have been in contact with the Chair of ART to make them aware they may be an influx of requests to learn to ring. Will announce something as soon as plans are more formulated.
  • Operation London Bridge
On behalf of ringers and the CCCBR I will be providing feedback to contacts at Lambeth Palace around issues bellringers faced both by the extension of Procalamtion Day over 2 days (presumably they didn't decide that), flags at half mast whilst local Procalamations still taking place, and clarification about ringing for other events such as weddings during the period of National Mourning.

Our next conversations will then turn to bellringers participation in King Charles III's Coronation.
  • Operation London Bridge
There have been some discussions on whether ringing for weddings during the mourning period should go ahead or not. I suggest that the instructions in our guidance is followed and a conversation with the vicar as to whether ringing for a wedding is appropriate at all or not in the circumstance.

    Hi George
Apologies it's been a bit delayed for a number of reasons, but there is intention to launch a final competition round very soon. Details will be issued via all the usual channels.

    Hi Alan

We only found out about the request to ring at 12 noon today very late last night. The CCCBR does not support ringing for political reasons although one could argue this is more about the humanitarian cause. Because of the political connotations, it is up to local ringers to decide and agree with their incumbents should they ring.
  • PR Matters Day 2.0
I think it's something that builds over time. I started by searching for local tv, radio and print press and making a note of their Newsdesk or Editor's contact details. From then, whenever someone else has contacted me from an outlet, I've added their details to my list.
  • PR Matters Day 2.0
I would certainly be pitching it that way. NAGR are part of the conversations we're having, but not sure how it translates across to other territories.
  • Public Appreciation of Quality
Thank you for your post Paul. We often feel unappreciated and the general public may not know good from bad striking but I think we do us, and them a diservice by thinking that way and should always apsire to strike well, regardless of what we're ringing for.
